Global Coordinates

Copy these in your notebook if you missed them today!

Lat. Long. lines

Write this in your journals:


Latitude: Imaginary lines, or parallels, that run around the belly of the earth. (FAT-itude).


Longitude: Imaginary lines, or meridians, that run from the top to bottom of the earth. (LONG-itude).


Absolute Location: "Grid address".  Latitude and Longitude lines cross each other.

Draw two spheres in your notebook.  On the first sphere, draw LATITUDE (FAT-itude) lines.  On the second sphere, draw LONGITUDE (LONG-itude) lines.

Test and missing assignments

Students and parents, the Reading Check test results are in and you can see them on powerschool.  I invite and encourage anyone who scored a 14 (77%) or lower on the test to retake it in my classroom during powerup.

At this point, many of you having missing assignments to hand in to me, which means you might have to stay in during the next catch-up assembly!  I want you to get those in to me PRONTO so that you don't have to miss out on any more fun activities.  You might also have a zero on your scoresheet.  Does that mean you can't make it up?  NO.  You can make up a zero and you should!  Talk to me if you have concerns and I will be thrilled to help you get an A in my class.  :)

Students, get in your country report groups and decide who will present first, second, etc. Write it down in your Think About Journals.  Who is going to say what?  Do you have a creative intro for your presentation? You have 5 minutes from the time the tardy bell rings to get this done.  Thank you!


 Vocab-  (Write these in your Think About Journal if you missed them today).

Hemisphere- Hemi means half.  Sphere means a round shape like the globe.  The world can be split into 4 hemispheres, or parts:  N, S, E, W  

Quadrant- Quad means four... the world can be split into NW, SW, SE, NE...

equator- 0 degrees... hot climate- splits the world into N and S

prime meridian- 0 degrees--- connects the poles through England- splits the world into E and W

earth's Tilt cause different seasons and holidays


Did you know that in the southern hemisphere- during Christmas- it is hot???  Bbq, beaches, swimsuits!

Earth has the four seasons because of the tilt of the axis is at 23.5 degrees. In other terms- Earth sits on it's side while it spins through the cosmos.

The Suns light hits the Earth directly and indirectly- warming some spots more than others....

Because of this tilt- hoildays around the world look and feel different everywhere.

Culture is directly affected becuase of space...WOW!
